Broken

In the unlit room, he sat alone,
His heart heavy as metal,
Wrapped under a thread bare blanket,
The threads that the Sisters three
Hold together or tear apart.

And often did the threads collide,
By the rising moon or the setting sun,
And entwined were the rose petals,
His heart had no room for fun.
And yet, he thought of good ol’ days…

When the sun shone,
Of orchards and olive trees,
And large pastures green,
Where cows and goats
Grazed at the mountain core.

In another land, she sought the same,
Happy and carefree she saw her mane,
The birds around her chirped and played.
Their wheeling gay
She assayed.

The clouds come over
And the skies are unblue,
Lightning strikes and the waters fall,
Hither and thither, they all run
for cover. Till they hear the painful call!

In his mind he sought her pleasure,
For her ‘twas broken treasure,
And yet she, timid and bare,
And of the harsh world
Completely unaware…

Curses she hears, and gaily he runs,
The cold showers have begun,
In her heart- the lightness gone.
And she waits
For the moon’s dawn.

He sees her with bloodied
Eyes, and in his heart
Lives no love. And his replies
Are always tart.
Till she moves to the open skies…

The coolness of the wind,
The pleasures of the rain,
And the flowing of her mane.
Which in the moonlight,
Was a flowing river in the sun!

Palpitations,
and beads of sweat
that glow in the moonlight,
Oh! Sweet moonlight, that covers
So many facial imperfections!

The silver, she saw, she grazed,
against her wrist,
(While he, oblivious to his deed)
The last she saw a red flash,
And she dreamt…

The birds around her chirped and played.
While their wheeling gay
She assayed.
